Exhibition Text by Lynn Beavis and Karin Zuppiger
"Through radically different interpretations of utopia, painter Veronika Szkudlarek questions the accuracy of our culturally defined needs, values and desires. Her painting Land of Cockayne depicts utopia as a land of pure hedonism, extravagance and excess, while another painting Ghandi’s Thousand Villages promotes the notion that small communities may act as sites for collective optimism and self-sufficiency."
